Introduction
Many people have asked about mapping for tremulous. They especially seem to be having
trouble with the install and their first couple of maps. Since the troubleshooting of the install
is diverse I’ll leave that up to the
mapping wiki and
the forums and
troubleshooting forum. What I hope we’ll be doing in this
thread is creating a step by step tutorial of the actual mapping. I’ll be doing this the way I’m
doing FCP. There are other ways, but well, this is mine. Remember that tremulous is capable
of much more than what is shown here but you are beginners so everything is down to its
basics except for the gameplay mechanics guide which should be understood from the very
beginning if you want to make fun and challenging maps.
Mapping is about making maps; 3D levels which players can walk through and play in.
The play in part is the most important and something most people forget about when they start
mapping. It’s pretty easy to create a room which you can walk in or a level you can explore.
But making something that is actually playable takes a little preparation. You won’t find this
in any mapping tutorials on the internet because Tremulous’ gameplay mechanics are
uncommon.
